He pioneered digital research inside a think tank to do it, and founded an AI lab a decade ago to do it too. He's gone on cyber-crime raids, interviewed fake news merchants, and dug deep into the heart of an assassination market on the dark net — all in search of how power works.

Artificial Intelligence and Power
AI is manipulated — for politics and for profit. You might be making the biggest bets of your career on AI, but if you don't understand how it is influenced from the shadows, your blind spot is someone else's business model. Carl will tunnel into the heart of a Russian information warfare operation, the first deliberately targeting AI, to show you how the landscape of influence has fundamentally changed — and how there's no going back.

Digital Geopolitics
Information spaces are now treated as theatres of war. Carl Miller is at the forefront of understanding how that warfare will target you.
He has given keynotes at NATO summits, led technology teams fighting back against information warfare, caused Russian-aligned groups to be arrested, and released a new strategy — D-RAIL — for disrupting malign influence. He will talk about how information warfare is fought in an age of AI, and what everyone — individuals, businesses and states — needs to do in response.

Cyber Crime
Fifteen years ago, Carl founded the first digital research team in the UK using AI to investigate digital spaces at the think tank Demos and coined SOCMINT, ‘social media intelligence’. Since then, he’s combined crypto-currency tracing, dark net investigations, cyber-crime raids with the police and investigative journalism with the BBC to research cyber criminality. Most recently, he led a four-year long secret investigation into assassination markets on the dark net, resulting in 34 arrests, 28 convictions and over 180 years of prison time being sentenced, becoming the global #1 podcast Kill List, winner of the Guardian podcast of the year and the Broadcasting Press Guild Best Podcast of 2025.
He’ll show how scam and crime groups really work. How criminals create social trust, how they recruit and cooperate with each other and how criminal groups are leveraging and building new technology. He’ll talk about an emerging new wave of criminal scams bolstered by AI-generated manipulation, crypto-currencies, and state-sponsored support. How is the threat changing? Where is it going? Who will it target? And are we ready?
